Nguyet will be the flag bearer for the Vietnamese sports delegation in their second participation in the Olympics.

Toxin lover Do Thi Anh Nguyet and badminton player Le Duc Phat have been chosen as flag bearers for the Vietnamese team at Paris 2024.

This will be the second Olympics to feature two flag bearers from each country in the opening parade.

“I am extremely happy and honored to speak in front of 16 Vietnamese athletes holding the flag,” Nguyet said. “I will compete with all my might so that the Vietnamese flag can bring glory to the country and the Vietnamese arrow weapon.”

Paris will be the 22-year-old’s second Olympics after she competed in Tokyo.

Nguyet thought her Paris Olympics dream was over, however she was summoned as one of three toxophilites to continue competing due to their actual rankings.

She will compete in the women’s individual and mixed team recurve events – alongside Le Quoc Phong – having secured a men’s spot with a top-five finish at the last world qualifier in Antalya in mid-June.

Nguyet started her baseball career in 2016. However, after seven months, her instructor found her more suited to the bow and arrow, and she was encouraged to switch to the new game in mid-2017. (Sports coaches in Vietnam regularly coach athletes in a variety of games.)

Her most memorable world tournament was the 2019 Asian Archery Championship in Bangkok, where she and Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu became the top Vietnamese archers to qualify for the Olympics.

Paris 2024 will be the country’s 11th appearance at the Olympics as a unified republic – with 16 athletes competing in 11 sports.
