Li-Ning Badminton World Championship Vietnam 2024: Athletes officially compete in Bac Giang

Earlier today (November 12), at Bac Giang Sports Stadium, athletes officially entered the Li-Ning Vietnam Global Series 2024 Badminton Tournament. This is the first time the tournament has been held in the Bac Giang region.

This year’s competition attracted 197 competitors, including 73 female competitors and 124 male competitors from 15 countries and territories including: Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, India, Korea, Laos, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, Taiwan (China) and Vietnam. The competitors competed in 5 categories: Men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles with 198 challenging matches.

The Vietnamese team participated in the tournament with 83 contestants, including many young contestants. This will be a good opportunity for young contestants to gain a deeper understanding of global competitions and practice their abilities. The Bac Giang region has 13 contestants participating, with many unmistakable names such as Tran Thi Phuong Thuy, Pham Van Hai, Tran Quoc Khanh, Than Van Anh.

The official competition day included 60 qualifying matches, the 1/64 round and the 1/32 round for men’s singles, women’s singles and women’s team. Tennis player Than Van Anh was the first player from Bac Giang to compete in the women’s doubles. Than Van Anh – Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan faced the women’s pair Hoang Than Xuan – Chia Yi Kung from Taiwan, China. Afterwards, the Vietnamese women’s pair won with a score of 2-0 (21-14, 21-14).

The players will compete from today until November 17. The final matches of the tournament are scheduled to take place from 13:00 on November 17.

It is known that in order to prepare for the competition, Bac Giang region has closely coordinated with the Organizing Committee of the competition to ensure the full and scientific arrangement of departments to serve the preparation and competition work, creating favorable conditions for the tasks; ensuring security, order, fire prevention and fighting, hygiene, security, electricity, network, etc.

At the same time, translators and volunteers have been organized to receive and return appointments. With careful preparation, the Badminton World Federation, Badminton Asia Federation assessed the competition offices at the Bac Giang General Gymnasium to be identical to the most notable global standards.
