FIFA calls Nguyen Van Quyet ‘the pride of Vietnamese football’
Tonight, November 13, the TikTok channel of the International Football Federation (FIFA) posted a video interviewing Van Quyet. The federation left a basic status: “Happy for Nguyen Van Quyet”, along with the football icon and the Vietnamese flag.
At the end of the video, FIFA reviewed Van Quyet’s remarkable achievements. In the match against Hai Phong in round 7 of V.League 2024/2025, Nguyen Van Quyet scored a goal and officially became the best domestic striker in the entire history of the tournament with 117 goals. FIFA left a comment: “Happy with Van Quyet, happy for Vietnamese football”.
Nguyen Van Quyet shared in the video: “Van Quyet simply believes that football as well as Vietnam needs to grow stronger and reach out to the world. Especially, later when my children are conceived, everyone will see me and many of my colleagues as professional players, playing with the noblest souls.
Saying that he creates Vietnamese football compared to the world, I don’t dare to look, but I believe that the young generation will be happy for Van Quyet, happy for Vietnamese football”.
At the club level, Nguyen Van Quyet has scored 117 goals in 288 matches in the V.League. Van Quyet has scored in 15 consecutive seasons playing in the V.League. He has brought home the V.League championship many times, the National Cup many times and the National Super Cup many times. The striker, who was introduced to the world in 1991, has been the best player of the V.League many times, won the Golden Ball twice and won the Silver Ball twice in Vietnam.
Van Quyet has played 60 matches and scored 16 goals for the Vietnam national team. Van Quyet has participated in 5 AFF Cup tournaments and won the championship in 2018. Normally, he is the captain of the national team. Van Quyet was brought back by coach Kim Sang-sik after nearly 1 year of absence.
In late October 2024, Nguyen Van Quyet announced his decision to step down from the national team, which will likely cause much excitement among fans. The 33-year-old actually played very well when he was substituted off the bench in the match against India.
